It used to be Red Theology, now it's Green

Liberation Theology
is a variety of social-spiritual activism that sprung up in recent decades within many of the Establishment churches, but most notably among Catholics in Central and South America where even Bishops joined in with revolutionary socialist forces to pursue social reform, justice AND spiritual salvation. The current Pope made his career by climbing up the ladder of success while fighting against this "Red Menace" within the Church, working to purge, combat, neutralize and discredit all of its gains and "satanic" influences.

And now the shock from the BP Oil Spill is stimulating another variety of Theology among the Establishment - is it a true movement for social and spiritual transformation? Or one designed precisely to co-opt and neutralize pre-emptively any such mass movement? It's too soon to tell, but the mainstream media seem to be seizing on reports like the one below, excitedly dropping buzzwords like "Green Religion" or "Eco-Theology" as if they have just discovered the wheel.

Do they not know that Nature, the totality of All that exists, is the largest single Temple in the Universe, a Sacred and Divine Singularity that is self-aware and comprised of condensed Consciousness embodied as Matter, Energy and Life? The Sacred and Divine All,
{All is One, Love is All, Love is Law, Alla's Won}
the conscious Universe, is precisely structured so that the architectural relationship of the Universal Consciousness to the individual personal consciousness is just as the Islamic theological concept of Fitrah (Fitra) describes:

"...that at the basic foundation of our existence as entities we are
all creatures of the Law of Love, creatures of the All, creatures of
Allah, of All Love. And that becoming a spiritual person is simply a
process of remembering all of that again, and honoring our true nature."
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Universal_Life_Church/message/2255

Nature-worship, Pantheism, Hinduism, Paganism, and many "official" and "unofficial" contemporary and ancient traditional spiritual Paths honour and embrace that knowledge. Oh, but it's so hard to remember!

Green religion movement hopes spill wins converts
By JOHN FLESHER, AP Environmental Writer
Wed Jul 7, 2010

NEW ORLEANS – Where would Jesus drill?

Religious leaders who consider environmental protection a godly mission are making the Gulf of Mexico oil spill a rallying cry, hoping it inspires people of faith to support cleaner energy while changing their personal lives to consume less and contemplate more.

"This is one of those rare moments when you can really focus people's attention on what's happening to God's creation," said Walt Grazer, head of the National Religious Partnership for the Environment.

Activists in the movement often described as "green religion" or "eco-theology" are using blogs and news conferences to get the word out. Some are visiting the Gulf, inspecting oil-spattered wetlands and praying with idled fishermen and other victims.

And believers in the stricken coastal regions are looking at the consequences of the oil's reach and asking what good can come out of it.

During worship services on a recent Sunday, pastor Eddie Painter of Barataria Baptist Church in the fishing village of Lafitte told his congregation a silver lining in the tragedy might be renewed government commitment to restoring the region's battered coastal marshlands.

"I actually didn't think I would be as deeply affected as I was by seeing oil in the water, the birds with oil stains, the marsh grass that had turned a shiny brown," said the Rev. Jim Ball of the Evangelical Environmental Network, who recently toured Louisiana's Barataria Bay by boat.

Another delegation was scheduled to arrive in New Orleans on Tuesday for an interfaith prayer service and tour. Among the participants are Jim Wallis of the progressive Christian group Sojourners and Rabbi David N. Saperstein of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism. Both have served on President Barack Obama's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

Their appearance is being coordinated with the Sierra Club, which has forged alliances with organized religion since its former director, Carl Pope, acknowledged in a 1997 speech the environmental movement had erred by shunning such ties.

"Different people have credibility with different segments of the population," said Lindsey Moseley, the group's Washington representative. "The oil spill is ultimately a matter of values, which for many people are rooted in deeply held religious beliefs."

Organizations including the National Council of Churches and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops have issued statements calling for soul-searching. Some are providing ecologically themed online resources — prayers, liturgy, scripture readings — for use in worship services.

"We have used God's creation without regard for the impact our rapacity had on the other creatures with whom we share our earthly home," reads a model prayer on the Council of Churches' website.

The push for an ecological Great Awakening since the oil spill began in April has come from liberals as well as theologically conservative groups such as the Evangelical Environmental Network, which previously sponsored an ad campaign with the slogan "What Would Jesus Drive?" that called for more fuel-efficient vehicles.

In a resolution this month, the Southern Baptist Convention declared that humanity's "God-given dominion over the creation is not unlimited, as though we were gods and not creatures" and called for "energy policies based on prudence, conservation, accountability and safety."

"Caring for creation is an extension of loving your neighbor as yourself," said Russell Moore, dean of Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Ky., who wrote the statement.

Disagreements persist, especially over public policies like climate-change legislation.

Painter, the Lafitte preacher, criticized the Obama administration's fight for a moratorium on offshore drilling, saying it would worsen unemployment in the struggling community.

"I think we're called to be good stewards of God's creation," said Painter, who's also a part-time crab fisherman. "But I have no patience with people who are using the situation to push a political agenda."

But some scholars say their response to the oil spill at least suggests an emerging agreement that environmental issues are fair game in houses of worship where they were long ignored.

"Very few of the world's religions were making any statements about the environment 20 years ago, and now virtually all of them have," said Mary Evelyn Tucker, a historian of religion and founder of Yale University's Forum on Religion and Ecology. "The challenge is to put them into practice."

Even people with no specific religious beliefs are recognizing a spiritual dimension in the Gulf tragedy and taking a deeper look at their energy use, Tucker said.

"There is a yearning for meaning and purpose and being able to contribute to something larger than ourselves," she said.

The disaster may help replace longstanding divisions based on dogma or culture with "a new kind of consensus that isn't liberal or conservative, left or right, but focuses on stewardship of creation, care for the poor and accountability for corporate leaders," Wallis said.

Moore, a native of "God-fearing, pro-defense, Republican-voting" Biloxi, Miss., said the creation care message is resonating in his home state as oil spoils its Gulf coastline and batters its economy.

For progressive believers, it's an easy sell. But many conservatives consider eco-theology a distraction from the church's primary mission of winning souls — or even a stalking horse for socialism or earth worship.

In Louisiana, where loyalty to the oil and gas industry remains strong despite the BP disaster, opposition to fossil fuels sometimes doesn't go over well.

"God put the oil there. He put it there for us to take dominion over and use responsibly," said Gene Mills, director of the Louisiana Family Forum.

Ball said it's understandable that some believers would embrace creation stewardship in theory while resisting specific measures that change their way of life. But making fundamental change is what religious commitment is all about, he added.

"As Christians we have the freedom to do God's will," he said. "We're not helpless, we're not hopeless."

Islam: a Comment from a Reader

A few days ago we received word from a reader that was posted as a Comment to one of our news items. It's an excellent point of view; and an excellent opportunity for us to restate some of our positions on Islam.

Our reader wrote:
"Muslims are the only religion that respect Christos, we are the only people who admire Virgin Maria. My Quran said 'Virgin Maria best woman all over the world'. Muslims did not go to bomb Iraq and kill children, to Bomb Afganistan, to Bomb Vietnam, To Bomb Yugoslavia. My Quran said 'you will find the most friendly are christian'. We are all human, I do not agree with what some muslims are doing but I disagree as well with what many christians are doing in the name of the christianity."
http://cyprusindymedia.blogspot.com/2010/03/blog-post_24.html?showComment=1269613606777#c8071712710276029299

Since the Comment was addressed to me personally, I'd like to take the initiative in responding on behalf of our Editorial Collective.

There is a global class war going on that is currently ripping up the planet, generating deaths and casualties on the physical plane, with more than a million and a half Arab and Moslem people killed in this decade. This imperialist war is also raging on the ideological plane and in the realms of propaganda. Those of us who are spiritually oriented also understant that beyond being an expression of modern class struggle, the war is also a war on the spiritual planes. But it's the ideological plane that defines the current phase: we are living through the cruelest and most despicable Crusade War against Islam in history.

The people of Islam and the Arab world are being targeted and exterminated with radioactive weapons, with conventional weapons, with chemical bombs, with starvation, by blockade, by destruction of the civil infrastructure and by the most fierce and poisonous ideological campaign ever. It has succeeded in demonizing Islam in the eyes of the West, making Muslims an "easy target". People in the fake christian countries of the West are not very upset morally with the total war that their Governments and Corporations are waging against Muslim and Arab people. The demonization of Islam has been mostly successful in that sense, enabling the war criminals who own and operate the global Empire to continue on their Crusade without much opposition from inside their own countries.

We find this intolerable.

From its very inception, the Cyprus IndyMedia Collective has expressed an appreciation for Islam and an embrace of the truth that is found in the core all spiritual paths and we embedded that within our founding papers - please see the section titled "Politics of the Spiritual realms":
The Short Statement

Please see also various positions and analyses we have published over the years that show clearly our ideological, political and spiritual assessment of Islam's position in the globe's current state of affairs:

And since our reader had addressed me specifically, I'd like to add a few of my personal writings that I think convey a complex, unconventional and multifaceted appreciation of Islam on various levels. I may not qualify as a good muslim, nor as a "good anything" by the criteria of most religions, but I believe that my contributions to the quest for a spiritually meaningful collective social and political liberation, when seen through the eyes of those who are defending Islam, are genuine. And probably of some value to at least some spiritual seekers and freedom fighters.

Here, an exploration of the role of religious concepts and sentiments within the process of the struggle for political liberation, and some specific features of Muslim theology correlated with Socialism:

The events of September 11 were cleverly used to stir up hatred against Muslims all over the world. Within the United States there are thousands of people active within the Truth Movement, a movement aimed at exposing the complicity of some elements of the US ruling class and of the US Government who together with the "unknown" terrorists who carried out those terrible acts succeeded in generating enough hatred against Islam to numb and stupefy people in the countries of the West so as to accept a new modern Crusade. Death by Robot versus Universal Love

The United States continues to escalate the air-bombing of Pakistan in more and more blatant acts of state-sponsored terrorism.

A large number of people were killed this Wednesday with a "New Year's gift" air-attack carried out by remote controlled robot aircraft (drones) launched by the US against Pakistan. The bombings were executed in the "new style" of operations that was taught to the world by the Israeli invasion army during the slaughter it had carried out against Gaza last year: a location is first struck causing death and injuries, and then some time is allowed for people to gather on the spot hoping to dig out the survivors, assist the injured and collect the dead. An hour later, as the rescue operations unfold the location is bombed again, killing and injuring anyone there.

Al Jazeera reported "...there was the first strike by the drone in which six people were killed. Immediately after that people went to the rescue and as the rescue efforts were still underway the second strike took place, causing the death toll to rise...":
http://english.aljazeera.net/news/asia/2010/01/20101613294018697.html

Wednesday's attack is only one of a long string of air-bombing strikes by the US engaged in an illegal war against Pakistan that was never declared. Even the BBC tackle this obstacle in order to report on the news, and therefore reported "The US military routinely does not confirm drone attacks but the armed forces and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operating in Afghanistan are believed to be the only forces capable of deploying drones in the region."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7975871.stm

The Long War Journal (a non-profit information and media arm of the Empire, closely intertwined with the Pentagon and military intelligence sources), reports that the US has bombed Pakistan from the air on the average once a week in 2009, almost double the number of attacks from the year 2008. (Please click on the images for a larger version.)

Deaths and injuries of civilians caused by these raids are tremendous. In April of 2009 "The News International", published in Pakistan reported: "Of the 60 cross-border predator strikes carried out by the Afghanistan-based American drones in Pakistan between January 14, 2006 and April 8, 2009, only 10 were able to hit their actual targets, killing 14 wanted al-Qaeda leaders, besides perishing 687 innocent Pakistani civilians. The success percentage of the US predator strikes thus comes to not more than six per cent."
http://www.thenews.com.pk/top_story_detail.asp?Id=21440

The Government of Pakistan seems to be implicated by having at least some complicity in the attacks, or at least that is what the United States claims. Even Reuters, in an effort to justify these acts of war against Pakistan, concedes that "Missiles fired from a U.S. drone at militants after a funeral for a Taliban commander in South Waziristan near the Afghan border killed about 70 insurgents on Tuesday, Pakistani intelligence officials said. Civilian casualties caused by the missile-carrying, pilotless drones, operated by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, have infuriated many Pakistanis and made it harder for the government to cooperate with the United States."

All of the Imperialist media are engaged in an operation to either under-report these illegal actions by the US, or to create a climate in which they seem "natural". That was the aim of the Reuters news item from which the above quote is taken. Please read the rest here:
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/ISL468987.htm

Meanwhile, more and more people in Pakistan are being drawn into the conflict, as patriots, socialists, anti-imperialists and religious people are becoming more and more polarized toward a stance of anti-american hostility. That is the significance of Al Jazeera's usage of the phrase "opposition fighters" instead of calling them "terrorists" or "al-Qaeda operatives" in the above quoted article. In other words, the over-simplified and imaginary world of black and white, good and bad, etc. that is being painted by US propaganda is collapsing in the eyes of the people who live in the region, especially as they find themselves being bombed indiscriminately and illegally in an undeclared war that was initiated by George Bush and now being escalated by the "Peace Candidate" and now President of the US, Obama.

Within the United States opposition to the bombing of Pakistan is nearly zero. Even while the majority of the US population opposes the invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, the Peace movement has become less and less active in recent years. Knowledge about the weekly bombings of Pakistan is very rare, and even among the few who know about them, hardly any are actively engaged to stop the attacks.

A notable exception is Father Louie Vitale, a former US Air Force navigator who is now a monk and Peace activist plus a few other companions, who have been protesting together against the remote controlled death-by-robot attacks that the US is carrying out in the Middle East and SouthWestern Asia:
http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2009/04/the-drones-cant/

Western media have created an image of the Pakistani people that is characterized by a supposed religious fanaticism, presenting them as a people drunk on "death to America" type of slogans (which are of course entirely justified as the unprovoked US bombings against Pakistan continue). But the propaganda painting the Pakistani people as backwards religious fanatics affects almost everyone, blinding us to the reality of a country that is comprised of millions of Peace loving people. Who could know nowadays that the Pakistani people - especially the religious people - are on the whole a very modest and quietly dignified community engaged in life-affirming hard work?

Even the few provocateurs who try to use religion to stir up hatred in Pakistan find very little response, while spiritually motivated Muslim activists identify them and neutralize their ideology. Consider for example the impact of US bombings against the Pakistani people, to the message of love from Muslim Peace activist S.A.Rehman, here:
"Islam is a Religion of Peace"
http://cyprusindymedia.blogspot.com/2010/01/islam-is-religion-of-peace.html

It's a whole other universe of values: Death by Robot, or Universal Love?

Islam is a Religion of Peace

A Message for Muslims - and for all of us
"Islam is a religion of peace. Islam teaches respect and love for all, even the animals. But many narrow-minded Muslims have so far failed to learn anything good from the teachings of Mohammed, Peace Be Upon Him, who preaches love for the peoples of all religions. We are far away from the basic principle of Islam i.e. "Enjoining the people to do Good and forbidding them from Doing Evil" and thus, possess no quality of the civilized society...

The killing of others in the name of religion is a Sin. Can a FATHER ever teach his Children to be the permanent Enemies of each other?

...My feeling is that the Muslims should unite to discredit and deactivate the fringe mullahs (Preachers of Hate) who promise a quick trip to paradise to people who have little and sacrifice themselves with bombs strapped to their bodies. If the mullahs (THE LIARS) thought that it really was a way to paradise they would be strapping bombs to themselves!" - S.A.Rehman, PAKISTAN

* * *

Friends,

We've received a new Message for Peace from S.A.Rehman, a Muslim Peace Activist from Pakistan, whose home country that in the last few years has been the target of frequent air bombings by the US and automated (death-by-robot) extra judicial illegal executions of people in the context of the US-sponsored War Against Islam that has divided the globe, and is continuing to plunge the world into an expanding battle-field.

The message is a surprising bouquet of spiritual truth, religious truth and Universal Love.
Please read it below - a good remedy to help clear the mind from the constant propaganda of hatred and violence!

Peace Be Upon Us,
Petros Evdokas, petros@cyprus-org.net

AN OPEN LETTER TO MUSLIMS ONLY

Dear Muslim Brothers and Sisters,

God forbid if any one of our near one and dear one is killed then the killer is evil, a beast and what not and should get penalty but if one among us kills anybody then he is not evil and we start lying, denying or even justifying the killing.... double standards?

Being Muslims, many of our brothers and sisters are not working for peace. They are misguided, mistaken and spreading the virus of hatred and revenge through telling deliberate lies, disinformation and false accusations, which is resulting in death and miseries for number of innocent people living around the world at the hands of merciless KILLER MUSLIMS and also bringing bad name to Mohammed, Peace Be Upon Him (PBUH), who never killed anyone in his life time.

Instead of teaching about Good & Evil, certain Radical Muslim Clerics are only "Trading in Religion". They teach us about accusing, abusing and killing the non-Muslims. They try to hypnotize us to Hate and Kill the non-Muslims and brethren of other sects or be killed and without using any common sense, we readily believe in whatever is being said by these Hate Mongers. Actually, they are "Agents of Satan" who is paying them heavily and in return they are cutting at the very roots of the Ummah. Instead of "Mourning" most of the Muslims are rejoicing on the brutal killings of the non-combatant innocent civilians and "The Murderers" have always been "Our Great Heroes".

Before it is too late and the Curse Of God falls upon us, we should use common sense, find out the TRUTH and must change ourselves to save Muslims from becoming the most "Hated, Isolated, Discredited and Suspicious" people in the world. We must start working for promoting "Sectarian Harmony and Religious Tolerance" in the society and should prove to the WORLD through our deeds that Islam is not a religion of Zero Tolerance and Mohammed (PBUH) teaches "Love & Peace" and not Gangsterism, Terrorism, Barbarism, Extremism, Sectarianism, Cruelty, Inhumanity and "Hatred & Killing" of the innocent civilians.

Islam is a religion of peace. Islam teaches respect and love for all even the animals. But many narrow-minded Muslims have so far failed to learn anything good from the teachings of Mohammed (PBUH) who preaches love for the peoples of all religions. We are far away from the basic principle of Islam i.e. "Enjoining the people to do Good and forbidding them from Doing Evil" and thus, possess no quality of the civilized society. Unfortunately, many of us show Zero Tolerance towards others and have wrongly learnt few thing to be called as good Muslims and those are "hate" the non-Muslims and "Accusing, Abusing and Cursing" the non-Muslims. ...act of madness?

The killing of others in the name of religion is a Sin. Can a FATHER ever teach his Children to be the permanent Enemies of each other?

The time has come for us to stop readily believing in whatever is being said, read and written by the LIARS / Hate Mongers. Unfortunately, some misguided-Muslims believe that the Holy Koran and Holy Prophet (PBUH) both have instructed Muslims that the opponents be KILLED and that they are simply following the orders. We should use our own common sense and only believe which is logical, convincing and in the best interest of the humanity.

Why do we hate others so much, may be they are better humans then what we are. My feeling is that the Muslims should unite to discredit and deactivate the fringe mullahs (Preachers of Hate) who promise a quick trip to paradise to people who have little and sacrifice themselves with bombs strapped to their bodies. If the mullahs (THE LIARS) thought that it really was a way to paradise they would be strapping bombs to themselves! Their followers are kept too ignorant to see this for themselves and enlightened Muslims should educate them. We must promote understanding and peace. We are all watched by the same God and need to help one another, not Hate and Hurt.

Our contention is that the WORLD should resolve the conflicts facing the Muslim World to stop the terrorism. Unfortunately, all the disputes facing the Muslim World are our self created. The root causes of all the disputes are based on the Muslim Philosophy of Hate against the non-Muslims. The Muslim literature, teachings and preaching are spreading and injecting this hatred in hearts and minds of the Muslims. Our intolerant behavior is further proved by the root causes of all the pending conflicts that we (Muslims) cannot live side by side in peace with the non-Muslims. All the disputes facing Muslim World can be resolved easily, only if we (the Muslims) are able to condemn the "Philosophy of Hate" created in us by our past and present elders who have divided the peoples of the world in the name of "Religion, Cast and Creed".

Fellow Muslims! if God is one and he loves mankind, we should value each others life and strive to protect each other than thinking that if we kill we shall have reward. God looks at human beings not as belonging to different religions, that is why the rain falls to all, the sun shines to all and we all breathe the air freely. We are all created or given life in the very same way- whether Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Jew etc. Let us learn to love each other sincerely.

The change of heart and mind is possible to achieve if we keep up our relentless efforts for a violence free and peaceful world. We need to preach love, kindness and humanity with extremist devotion and mission. The mullahs (THE LIARS) and the preachers of HATE must be excommunicated at every level and we should stop giving them donations as it is our money which is being used by them to spread HATRED for killing of the innocents.

We must also stop dividing the World into Muslim and non-Muslim blocks. Our political leaders and religious teachers must offer positive ideas. Without the ability to imagine a better world, we cannot build anything together. Tolerance of the beliefs of other peoples in the world, warmth and friendship across racial cultures MUST be the objective of all peace loving people worldwide. What is being offered today through religion is "Death, Destruction and Sufferings".

MY PRAYER FOR PEACE:

Merciful God, please give to peoples of the world, the required wisdom and determination, to Forgive and Forget the bitterness of the past and learn to live in peace like brothers and sisters, by condemning the divisions and hatreds created in us by our past and present elders.
(Amen)

Please Read And Circulate this Message For Peace.
Thank you.

Easter and Global Revolution

by Petros Evdokas

I was very moved to read the holiday wishes and cards sent to the StopTheWar Coalition by our Palestinian and Nepalese friends, allies and comrades (copies below).

"Who cares about religion?" one might say. There's some truth to that objection. But there is a deeper, more significant truth in embracing the spiritual and social yearnings of the People. When revolutionaries embrace, cultivate and defend the best and most beautiful elements of our Peoples' cultures and yearnings, the People in return find more direct and clear motives to embrace, cultivate and defend the Revolution itself.

Freedom fighters who emerge from actual struggle in the various active fronts of the global Liberation Movement have an instinctual understanding of this. It's not "just politeness", "policy", or "diplomacy" as some clever supposedly emancipated secularists might say to dismiss our comrades' sentiments. There's something essential about easter references to the Resurrection of the Soul and Revolution.

"But why? What is the meaning of all this?"

Our comrades from Nepal, Palestine, Kurdistan, Lebanon, have a direct and inner awareness that the true culture of the people, which includes the peoples' spiritual life in its pure forms, separate from the distortions it manifests when it is dominated by the authoritarian church and other pseudo-religious institutions, is the moral and cultural foundation of liberation which, married to the realities of a freed up production, common ownership and people's power applied to direct democracy can generate a whole new world.

"But isn't it just backwards and reactionary religionism?"

It is precisely the opposite. The shocking truth of our people's true culture resides actively within our own words and is wholy embedded within our hidden semi-subconscious culture. This truth even survives in the international language, english:

o~ Primarily within the hellenic/greek language, but in almost all languages of the world, the words for Strike (Στάσις), Revolution (Επανάστασις), and Resurrection (Ανάστασις) are all slight variations of each other in meaning, in sound and reference. They are also conjoined at the root in conveying process and condition, expressing variations of a particular state of being.

This unity of concepts, spread out through the millennia as our culture helped to sculpt significant parts of modern civilization still survives in english: there is a close relation between Insurrection and Resurrection.

Who wants more? The unity between Communion and Communism?

In the hellenic/greek language:
o~ The word for Communion and Society is the same: Κοινωνία (Koinwnia).
o~ The phrase for a self-governed body of citizens is the same as the word for church: Εκκλησία του Δήμου (Ecclesia).

The domination of our peoples' lives by Capital and the State is matched equally by the domination of our culture by the authoritarian Church. There's no way to strive for, or even to perceive of, a local and global Liberation without paying attention to the efforts aimed at affirming, nurturing and freeing up our true culture from the claws of the Church demons who hold it hostage with superstition, mystification and moral perversion.

An awareness of the spiritual, emotional and moral significance of political events is an essential part of popular Consciousness. Every person with a Conscience in the western world perceives Palestine as the enduring Crucifixion. Bleeding, tormented, screaming and dying on the cross erected by the global Empire, Palestine is perceived by the western world in precisely those terms; this is the true essence of the peoples' culture expressing itself through its primeval archetypes.

And totally appropriate. Modern Palestine writhing on the Crucifix is located exactly where the easter references place it geographically: in the gateway to the Middle East, in the center of the Holy Lands. No matter how strongly the western Churches allied to Capital and Empire try to erase this from awareness, people in the West still connect to the idea and to the emotions related to Palestine through this archetype. Easter and Palestine on the Crucifix are an integral part of the moral~spiritual landscape within the awareness of most people in the West.

Let's say it again: An awareness of the spiritual, emotional and moral significance of political events is an essential part of popular Consciousness.

The Revolution unfolding recently and securing itself in Nepal is a Resurrection of the collective Soul. Both society and the person are becoming reborn through it with the pains, the joys and the awareness of an old/new Soul becoming re-established within existence, re-anchoring itself to the here and now.

Rebirth of Consciousness - Resurrection - is built into the very essence of all cultures in countries of the East; both the secular and the spiritual elements of eastern culture are embedded with ideas and concepts entirely filled with those archetypes. Is there anyone in the eastern countries who does not perceive social and personal revolution that way?

It's not a coincidence that in many countries of the East where the language is related to Sanskrit or Hindi, a political slogan is called a "mantra".

It's not a coincidence that two of most important and universal principles of Socialism are embedded within the theology and organization of Islam:

o~ Both Socialism and Islam affirm a social organization and management of resources aimed at the fulfillment of the needs of the people, stemming "from each according to one's ability, to each according to one's need";

o~ Both Socialism and Islam affirm a universal identity articulated by the Islamic concept of Fitrah, according to which all people without exception are born as embodiments of The All, Allah, and that each one of us only realizes (becomes aware and actualizes) Universal Consciousness according to the realities our collective and personal circumstances as experienced by the influences and conflict of class, religion, ethnic, cultural, linguistic, gender and sexual identities.

We say "it's not a coincidence", in order to underline the fact that there is continuum of ideas, concepts, emotions and factual realities ranging from objective to the subjective and the metaphysical, from the global peoples' spiritual cultures to the political struggles of the revolutionary global liberation process and all the way to the objective tenets and self-evident truths of Scientific Socialism.

As we move forward in the 21st century we recognize more clearly that social institutions that used to be progressive at one point in history are now reactionary chains holding us back: we move to seize back social production and resources from the claws of Capital; we move to seize back social administration, defence and justice from the claws of the State; and we move to seize back our own spiritual and cultural lives from the claws of the authoritarian Church.

In Cyprus, torn up and destroyed by the global Imperial State and Capital with the collusion of the local ruling class, both in the north and the south the leaders of the progressive political forces and those who pretend to be leading Patriots, Socialists and Freedom lovers have entirely betrayed both Socialism and the need to defend, protect and liberate the Motherland. They have joined themselves with the vultures of the global Imperial State to directly rule over, manage and oversee the exploitation of their own people and have joined in with the suppression of our people's own true native spirituality and culture. Their treason and byzantine intrigues have brought our indigenous culture and spirituality to the brink of extinction.

Additionally, they portray themselves as secularists, supposedly free from "religious superstition". At the same time they constantly pose in public at every opportunity with leaders of authoritarian Religion, reinforcing the most sick and oppressive connections between State, Religion and Capital. The people are left defenseless and without guidance. How do we wrestle back from their claws what is ours? Our spiritual and cultural treasures? Our country's social production and natural resources? Our communities' administration and the management of our own affairs?

When the leaders abandon the people, how are supposed to act? In what direction?

Meanwhile, when the leadership is truly immersed in the struggle and embraces the people's culture and its spiritual traditions, miraculous achievements become feasible and placed on the table of possibilities:

o~ the Vietnamese revolutionary forces embraced the religious and traditional Lunar~Solar New Year in 1968 with passion for freedom and military organization, initiating the Tet Offensive which led to the spreading of the revolutionary People's War everywhere in the country, leading the avalanche that finally defeated the greatest imperial country in the world's history. The US Empire is still yelping from that injury.

Class struggle, national liberation, collective and personal spiritual emancipation go hand in hand. Our comrades from countries where the struggle is active and where the Liberation Movement has not abandoned its basic principles, understand this reality intuitively. But in Cyprus, it seems, another heaven and another hell must pass before we are able to shake off the numbness induced by shopping and television in order to remember how and why to live. And die.
