Turkish gendarmerie teams found a massive cannabis farm, planted in an almost 4.6 million square meters of land, in eastern Turkey. Officials said nearly 25,000 tons of hashish could have been obtained from the farm.
The haul was discovered after gendarmerie forces received a tip in the eastern province of Van. Gendarmerie raided the field which was owned by 41 villagers and found nearly 2 billion stalks and roots of cannabis planted in the field.
The plants have an estimated street value of 30 billion Turkish liras ($20 billion USD), officials said.
It took nearly four days for soldiers to burn the cannabis, gendarmerie officials said.
Meanwhile, gendarmerie teams launched another operation in the area and found two tons of hashish near the field.
Operations are under way to catch the people in relation to the raids.
