Why a Temporary Page?

Cyprus needs to have a trilingual IndyMedia website where people can publish freely and openly in the Hellenic, Turkish and English languages - in the style of Open Publishing that IndyMedia has been known for within the politicized radical and alternative community since the beginning of this decade. We are very upset and disrupted with the fact that Open Publishing is not possible right now - but those are the realities of the where and how the IndyMedia network is right now as whole, both in terms of political and practical deficiencies.

We hope that our global indymedia colleagues and/or local friends of indymedia will help out so that Open Publishing can be restored as quickly as possible.

Easter and Global Revolution

I was very moved to read the holiday wishes and cards sent to the StopTheWar Coalition by our Palestinian and Nepalese friends, allies and comrades (copies below).

"Who cares about religion?" one might say. There's some truth to that objection. But there is a deeper, more significant truth in embracing the spiritual and social yearnings of the People. When revolutionaries embrace, cultivate and defend the best and most beautiful elements of our Peoples' cultures and yearnings, the People in return find more direct and clear motives to embrace, cultivate and defend the Revolution itself.

Freedom fighters who emerge from actual struggle in the various active fronts of the global Liberation Movement have an instinctual understanding of this. It's not "just politeness", "policy", or "diplomacy" as some clever supposedly emancipated secularists might say to dismiss our comrades' sentiments. There's something essential about easter references to the Resurrection of the Soul and Revolution.

"But why? What is the meaning of all this?"

Our comrades from Nepal, Palestine, Kurdistan, Lebanon, have a direct and inner awareness that the true culture of the people, which includes the peoples' spiritual life in its pure forms, separate from the distortions it manifests when it is dominated by the authoritarian church and other pseudo-religious institutions, is the moral and cultural foundation of liberation which, married to the realities of a freed up production, common ownership and people's power applied to direct democracy can generate a whole new world.

"But isn't it just backwards and reactionary religionism?"

It is precisely the opposite. The shocking truth of our people's true culture resides actively within our own words and is wholy embedded within our hidden semi-subconscious culture. This truth even survives in the international language, english:

o~ Primarily within the hellenic/greek language, but in almost all languages of the world, the words for Strike (Στάσις), Revolution (Επανάστασις), and Resurrection (Ανάστασις) are all slight variations of each other in meaning, in sound and reference. They are also conjoined at the root in conveying process and condition, expressing variations of a particular state of being.

This unity of concepts, spread out through the millennia as our culture helped to sculpt significant parts of modern civilization still survives in english: there is a close relation between Insurrection and Resurrection.

Who wants more? The unity between Communion and Communism?

In the hellenic/greek language:
o~ The word for Communion and Society is the same: Κοινωνία (Koinwnia).
o~ The phrase for a self-governed body of citizens is the same as the word for church: Εκκλησία του Δήμου (Ecclesia).

The domination of our peoples' lives by Capital and the State is matched equally by the domination of our culture by the authoritarian Church. There's no way to strive for, or even to perceive of, a local and global Liberation without paying attention to the efforts aimed at affirming, nurturing and freeing up our true culture from the claws of the Church demons who hold it hostage with superstition, mystification and moral perversion.


An awareness of the spiritual, emotional and moral significance of political events is an essential part of popular Consciousness. Every person with a Conscience in the western world perceives Palestine as the enduring Crucifixion. Bleeding, tormented, screaming and dying on the cross erected by the global Empire, Palestine is perceived by the western world in precisely those terms; this is the true essence of the peoples' culture expressing itself through its primeval archetypes.

And totally appropriate. Modern Palestine writhing on the Crucifix is located exactly where the easter references place it geographically: in the gateway to the Middle East, in the center of the Holy Lands. No matter how strongly the western Churches allied to Capital and Empire try to erase this from awareness, people in the West still connect to the idea and to the emotions related to Palestine through this archetype. Easter and Palestine on the Crucifix are an integral part of the moral~spiritual landscape within the awareness of most people in the West.

Let's say it again: An awareness of the spiritual, emotional and moral significance of political events is an essential part of popular Consciousness.

The Revolution unfolding recently and securing itself in Nepal is a Resurrection of the collective Soul. Both society and the person are becoming reborn through it with the pains, the joys and the awareness of an old/new Soul becoming re-established within existence, re-anchoring itself to the here and now.

Rebirth of Consciousness - Resurrection - is built into the very essence of all cultures in countries of the East; both the secular and the spiritual elements of eastern culture are embedded with ideas and concepts entirely filled with those archetypes. Is there anyone in the eastern countries who does not perceive social and personal revolution that way?

It's not a coincidence that in many countries of the East where the language is related to Sanskrit or Hindi, a political slogan is called a "mantra".

It's not a coincidence that two of most important and universal principles of Socialism are embedded within the theology and organization of Islam:

o~ Both Socialism and Islam affirm a social organization and management of resources aimed at the fulfillment of the needs of the people, stemming "from each according to one's ability, to each according to one's need";

o~ Both Socialism and Islam affirm a universal identity articulated by the Islamic concept of Fitrah, according to which all people without exception are born as embodiments of The All, Allah, and that each one of us only realizes (becomes aware and actualizes) Universal Consciousness according to the realities our collective and personal circumstances as experienced by the influences and conflict of class, religion, ethnic, cultural, linguistic, gender and sexual identities.

We say "it's not a coincidence", in order to underline the fact that there is continuum of ideas, concepts, emotions and factual realities ranging from objective to the subjective and the metaphysical, from the global peoples' spiritual cultures to the political struggles of the revolutionary global liberation process and all the way to the objective tenets and self-evident truths of Scientific Socialism.

As we move forward in the 21st century we recognize more clearly that social institutions that used to be progressive at one point in history are now reactionary chains holding us back: we move to seize back social production and resources from the claws of Capital; we move to seize back social administration, defence and justice from the claws of the State; and we move to seize back our own spiritual and cultural lives from the claws of the authoritarian Church.


In Cyprus, torn up and destroyed by the global Imperial State and Capital with the collusion of the local ruling class, both in the north and the south the leaders of the progressive political forces and those who pretend to be leading Patriots, Socialists and Freedom lovers have entirely betrayed both Socialism and the need to defend, protect and liberate the Motherland. They have joined themselves with the vultures of the global Imperial State to directly rule over, manage and oversee the exploitation of their own people and have joined in with the suppression of our people's own true native spirituality and culture. Their treason and byzantine intrigues have brought our indigenous culture and spirituality to the brink of extinction.

Additionally, they portray themselves as secularists, supposedly free from "religious superstition". At the same time they constantly pose in public at every opportunity with leaders of authoritarian Religion, reinforcing the most sick and oppressive connections between State, Religion and Capital. The people are left defenseless and without guidance. How do we wrestle back from their claws what is ours? Our spiritual and cultural treasures? Our country's social production and natural resources? Our communities' administration and the management of our own affairs?

When the leaders abandon the people, how are supposed to act? In what direction?

Meanwhile, when the leadership is truly immersed in the struggle and embraces the people's culture and its spiritual traditions, miraculous achievements become feasible and placed on the table of possibilities:

o~ the Vietnamese revolutionary forces embraced the religious and traditional Lunar~Solar New Year in 1968 with passion for freedom and military organization, initiating the Tet Offensive which led to the spreading of the revolutionary People's War everywhere in the country, leading the avalanche that finally defeated the greatest imperial country in the world's history. The US Empire is still yelping from that injury.

Class struggle, national liberation, collective and personal spiritual emancipation go hand in hand. Our comrades from countries where the struggle is active and where the Liberation Movement has not abandoned its basic principles, understand this reality intuitively. But in Cyprus, it seems, another heaven and another hell must pass before we are able to shake off the numbness induced by shopping and television in order to remember how and why to live. And die.

Υποστηρίζω και αγκαλιάζω ολόθερμα τις δηλώσεις του Πρόεδρου Χριστόφια που έκαμε στη Ρωσία σε σχέση με την συμμετοχή της Κύπρου στο ΝΑΤΟ, όπου είπε πως η Κύπρος "δεν είναι συνδεδεμένη και δεν θα συνδεθεί με το ΝΑΤΟ, τουλάχιστον όσο κυβερνά η δική μου κυβέρνηση και θέλω να πιστεύω και οι επόμενες κυβερνήσεις".

Η δήλωση του είναι ένα από τα λίγα και ορθά πράματα που έπραξε επί της Προεδρίας του.

Ποιά άλλη δήλωση σε σχέση με το ΝΑΤΟ θα μπορούσε να είναι ορθή και έντιμη μες την περίοδο που διανύουμε ενόσο η Κύπρος κατέχεται στρατιωτικά από δύο χώρες του ΝΑΤΟ και συνεχίζει να υπόκειται συστηματικά σε εθνοκάθαρση και υποδούλωση σε εκείνες τις δυνάμεις;

Η δήλωση του Πρόεδρου πυροδότησε πολυάριθμες και ανόητες αντιδράσεις από διάφορους εκπροσώπους του ίδιου Κατεστημένου στο οποίο και ο ίδιος ανήκει - μερικές από τις πιό επικίνδυνες και ανεύθυνες τέτοιες αντιδράσεις παρατίθενται στο τέλος τούτου του κειμένου γιά την ανάγνωση και κριτική σας απόλαυση. Οι διαφωνούντες με τον Πρόεδρο συγγραφείς των άρθρων παραμένουν παγιδευμένοι στη δεκαετία του 1950 με την κοσμοθεώρηση που χάραξε ίσως ανεξίτηλα στα μυαλά τους ο τότε Αρχηγός των Χερσαίων Δυνάμεων Διανόησης και Πάσης Ιδεολόγησης J. Edgar Hoover, πρώτος Διοικητής της FBI των ΗΠΑ.

Μακάρι όμως να ήταν αλήθεια αυτά που λέει ο κος Πρόεδρος!
Μακάρι οι αντιδρούντες που τον κατηγορούν για προσκόλληση σε "εφηβειακό" και "νεανικό" Κομμουνισμό να είχαν δίκαιο! Οι κατήγοροι του όμως, ψεύδονται, ενώ οι ίδιοι ουδέποτε εξέτασαν τον δικό τους γελειογραφικό και φανατικό αντι-κομμουνισμό που τροφοδοτεί τις αντιδράσεις των εναντίον του Προέδρου. Μιλούν ως εκ καρικατούρας εκπορευόμενοι.

Μακάρι να ήταν αληθινός Κομμουνιστής ο Πρόεδρος της Κύπρου!
Μακάρι να του άξιζαν οι ανόητες κατηγορίες που εκτοξεύονται εναντίον του.

Αλλά ο κος Χριστόφιας ψεύδεται γιά την αντι-Νατοϊκή του στάση. Η Κυβέρνηση που ενθρόνησε το ΑΚΕΛ με προκαθήμενο τον Τάσσο Παπαδόπουλο συνεργάστηκε έμπρακτα και στενότατα με τις δυνάμεις του Ιμπεριαλισμού μέχρι και την ενθρόνηση του νυν Προέδρου. Και συνεχίζει η Κυβέρνηση να συνεργάζεται μαζί τους ως σήμερα.

Οι διευκολύνσεις που παρείχαν και συνεχίζουν να παρέχουν στις στρατιωτικές δυνάμεις του Ιμπεριαλικού Άξονα γιά τις επιδρομές και εισβολές εναντίον των γειτόνων μας στο Αφγανιστάν και Ιράκ μήπως δεν μας καθιστούν προέκταση του ΝΑΤΟ; Τι άλλο συνιστούν οι παροχές πρόσβασης σε αεροδρόμια, λιμάνια, αυτοκινητόδρομους, μπύρες και διασκέδαση, τροφοδοσία, ανεφοδιασμό, καύσιμα, και σεξουαλικές υπηρεσίες γιά τις στρατιές των "Σταυροφόρων" που παν κι ' έρχονται διερχόμενοι την Κύπρο σφάζοντας τους γειτόνους μας;

Οι διευκολύνσεις που παρέχει η Κυβέρνηση στο Διεθνές Παρακράτος με τις μυστικές πτήσεις βασανιστηρίων ("Special Rendition" τις λέει η Κυρία Κοντολίζα, ή όπως λέμε στην Εντός των Τειχών Λευκωσία, "άψαν τα σπέσιαλ") - τις πτήσεις με την γνώση και την άδεια της Κυβέρνησης μας διήρχοντο και συνεχίζουν να διέρχονται των αεροδρομίων και αεροδιαδρόμων της Κύπρου - από και προς τις κρυφές φυλακές των δυνάμεων του ΝΑΤΟ όπου άγνωστοι αριθμοί παντελώς αθώων ατόμων υποβάλλονται σε συστηματική φρίκη ...μήπως δεν μας καθιστούν προέκταση του ΝΑΤΟ; Ή τάχατες αποτελούν έμπρακτη σοσιαλιστική Διεθνιστική αλληλεγγύη;

Η απόφαση και ανακοίνωση της Κυβέρνησης του ΑΚΕΛ που "χάρισε" (ακύρωσε) τα χρέη που οφείλει στην Κύπρο η Κατοχική Κυβέρνηση των ΗΠΑ στο Ιράκ τί άλλο ήταν παρά οικονομική και διπλωματική στήριξη του ΝΑΤΟϊκού Ιμπεριαλισμού; Όταν η ψευδο-σοσιαλιστική Κυβέρνηση της Κύπρου έκαμε εκείνο το βήμα ήταν μόνο η ΤΕΤΑΡΤΗ χώρα στον κόσμο που ακύρωσε τα χρέη γιά να κάμει χάρη στα ανδρείκελα της Κατοχικής Κυβέρνησης των ΗΠΑ στο Ιράκ. Πρώτη και καλύτερη ακύρωσε τα χρέη η κύρια δύναμη κατοχής, η Κυβέρνηση των ΗΠΑ, και μετά ακολούθησαν η Μάλτα, η Σλοβακία, και αμέσως μετά η Κύπρος. Ουδεμία άλλη χώρα στον κόσμο - ούτε καν οι άλλες δυνάμεις Κατοχής όπως το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, Καναδάς, κ.α, - διανοήθηκαν τέτοιο βήμα. Μιά τέτοια πράξη μήπως δεν μας καθιστά προκεχωρημένο φυλάκιο του ΝΑΤΟϊκού Ιμπεριαλισμού;

Η Κυβέρνηση Κύπρου υπέγραψε Σύμφωνο Ασφαλείας με το Πεντάγωνο με βάση του οποίου παρέχεται ιδεολογική προκάλυψη γιά παρεμβατικές και παράνομες πράξεις επιβολής "αστυνόμευσης" εκ μέρους των ισχυρών στα Διεθνή Ύδατα, παρέχοντας "αμοιβαία κατανόηση" όταν οι χώρες-μέλη του Συμφώνου επιβάλλουν διά της βίας νηοψίες σε "ύποπτα" σκάφη, προβαίνοντας μέχρι και σε κατάσχεση σκαφών. Όταν η ψευδο-σοσιαλιστική Κυβέρνηση της Κύπρου υπέγραψε τού'ν το Σύμφωνο με το Πεντάγωνο με πρόφαση την "καταπολέμηση της τρομοκρατίας" (το Σύμφωνο ονομάζεται Proliferation Security Initiative), ήταν μόνο η ΠΕΜΠΤΗ χώρα στον κόσμο που έπερνε τέτοιο βήμα! Η Κύπρος ήταν ή ΜΟΝΗ χώρα-μέλος της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης που τολμούσε κάτι τέτοιο. Όλες οι άλλες χώρες της ΕΕ διαμαρτύροντο ότι το Σύμφωνο νομιμοποιεί την πειρατεία και παραβιάζει το Διεθνές Δίκαιο των Θαλασσών, επιβάλλοντας μιά χωρίς προηγούμενο επικυριαρχία των ΗΠΑ και του ΝΑΤΟ εφ' όλης της υδρογείου. Οι μόνες άλλες χώρες που έσπευσαν να υπογράψουν τέτοιο χαρτί με τους Πειρατές της Γής πρίν από την Κύπρο ήταν οι "τρομεροί διεθνείς παράγοντες" Λιβηρία, Παναμάς, τα Νησιά Μάρσαλ, και η Κροατία. Και εσύ μικρούλα Κύπρος τί γυρεύεις μες τα σπαρτά; "Πού πας να γλείψεις;" λέει η λαϊκή φωνή.

Είμαστε, ή δεν είμαστε με τέτοιες πράξεις μιά διεθνής προέκταση - και μάλιστα πρωτοποριακής εμβέλειας - των δυνάμεων του ΝΑΤΟ;

Όλα τα μέλη της ανατρεπτικής και εναλλακτικής κοινότητας στην Κύπρο, μαζί με τις διάφορες εξωκοινοβουλευτικές ριζοσπαστικές και σοσιαλιστικές οργανώσεις γνωρίζουμε από πρώτο χέρι το πόσο σκληρά εργάζεται η ηγεσία του ΑΚΕΛ γιά να τορπιλλίζει ή και να καπελλώνει τις αντι-Ιμπεριαλιστικές αντι-ΝΑΤΟϊκές εκδηλώσεις κάθε χρόνο στο νησί. Μέχρι και συλλήψεις με ψευδείς κατηγορίες και παράνομες επιθέσεις βίας εναντίον παντελώς ειρηνικών διαδηλωτών έχει επιστρατεύσει η "πολιτική αστυνομία" εναντίον μας στις προσπάθειες της να καταστείλει κάθε ουσιαστική και αυτόνομη διαμαρτυρία εναντίον του Ιμπεριαλισμού, με αποτέλεσμα να τρέχουμε χρόνια στα Δικαστήρια γιά τις δίκες αγνών αγωνιστών και ακόμα να μην προφταίνουμε.

Τουλάχιστον δύο-τρείς φορές κάθε χρόνο από το 2002 ως σήμερα η κομματική ηγεσία του ΑΚΕΛ έμμεσα και άμεσα μας στέλλει μήνυμα πως οι αυτόνομες πολιτικές κινητοποιήσεις ενάντια στις Βάσεις του ΝΑΤΟ θα παταχθούν. Ή πως "δεν είναι τώρα ο καιρός" γιά τέτοιες κινητοποιήσεις.

Και όλοι γνωρίζουμε πως τα συνδικάτα και οργανώσεις των εργαζομένων στις Βάσεις του ΝΑΤΟ ελέγχονται από την ηγεσία του κόμματος. Παρ' όλο που πολλές φορές το ζητήσαμε, αλλά και αυτεπάγγελτα το ζήτησαν και από μόνοι τους οι εργαζόμενοι στις Βάσεις, το κόμμα ΑΡΝΗΘΗΚΕ επανειλημμένα να εγκρίνει ή να οργανώσει απεργία διαμαρτυρίας στις Βάσεις - ούτε έστω και συμβολική απεργία μιάς ώρας!

Η "ταξική αρμονία" που επιβάλλει και επιφέρει με διάφορα τεχνάσματα η ηγεσία του κόμματος φροντίζει ώστε οι Βάσεις του ΝΑΤΟ να λειτουργούν απρόσκοπτα κάθε λεπτό 24 ώρες το 24ωρο, χωρίς κανένα πολιτικό, διπλωματικό, στρατιωτικό ή εργασιακό εμπόδιο στην επιφρούρηση και επιβολή της παρουσίας του ΝΑΤΟϊκού Άξονος στην Μέση Ανατολή.

Τι λέει λοιπόν ο κος Πρόεδρος πως η Κύπρος "δεν είναι συνδεδεμένη και δεν θα συνδεθεί με το ΝΑΤΟ, τουλάχιστον όσο κυβερνά η δική μου κυβέρνηση"; Γιατί τόσα ψέματα; Υπάρχει σοσιαλιστής, κομμουνιστής, αναρχικός στην Κύπρο που τα ακούει και δεν εκούφανε ακόμα ο σπόρος του;

Θα μπορούσε τουλάχιστον να μείνει σιωπηλός ο κος Πρόεδρος. Το να λέω κάτι ορθόν τη στιγμή που συνειδητά και με κάθε επίγνωση οι πράξεις μου αποτελούν απόλυτη παραβίαση των λόγων μου και των ισχυρισμών μου είναι ...τουλάχιστον ανέντιμο.

Οι διαφωνούντες με τον Πρόεδρο λεν πως θα έπρεπε να συνεργάζεται πιό στενά με το ΝΑΤΟ, ή τουλάχιστον να "μην παρασύρεται από την κομμουνιστική του ιδεολογία" και "να μην εναντιώνεται τόσο προκλητικά" στο ΝΑΤΟ. Εμείς λέμε πως ήδη ο Πρόεδρος Χριστόφιας είναι επικίνδυνα στενός και οικείος συνεργάτης του ΝΑΤΟ και πως ο κος Πρόεδρος ψεύδεται, ενώ οι κριτές του παραλογίζονται μες την αντι-κομμουνιστική τους φιλο-ΝΑΤΟϊκή μέθη.

Έτσι κινείται ο δημόσιος διάλογος στην Κύπρο, ανάμεσα σε δύο πόλους: οι Κυβερνώντες κολυμπούν μες τα συνθηματικά ψέμματα, οι διαφωνούντες κολυμπούν μες τις παραισθήσεις "πολιτικής ανάλυσης".

Οι διαφωνούντες βέβαια έχουν έτοιμη την εκλογίκευση της στάσης τους: προβάλλουν την ιδέα πως αν η Κυβέρνηση της Κύπρου γλύψει ακόμα καλύτερα τους γλουτούς και ακόμα πιό βαθειά τον πρωκτό του Ιμπεριαλισμού, τότε το ΝΑΤΟ θα σώσει την Κύπρο. Ξεχνούν - ή θέλουν να ξεχνούν - πως "ΝΑΤΟ" συν το "Θα... και θά..." που αρθρώνουν αθυρόστομα οι πολιτικάντιδες μας σ' όλες τις προεκλογικές , ένα και μόνο σύνθετο παράγουν: ΘάΝΑΤΟ.

Γιατί τόσα ψέματα εκ μέρους του Προέδρου; Γιατί τόσα ψέματα εκ μέρους των κριτών του; Έχουν όλοι τους χάσει κάθε μέτρο συνέπειας πλέον; Τι παιγνίδια χειραγώγησης παίζονται εις βάρους του λαού μας πάλι;

Έχουμε στα χωριά της Κύπρου μιά φράση που χρησιμοποιείτο από πολύ παλιά και που έκφραζε με κάποια ευγένεια, κάποτε σαν συμβουλή, κάποτε και ως επίπληξη, εκείνο που θα έπρεπε να κάμει ο Πρόεδρος αν ήθελε να τηρήσει τουλάχιστον το πρόσχημα της "αντι-ΝΑΤΟϊκής" του στάσης. Η φράση είναι "κρύψε". "Άτε, κρύψε".

Εκείνη η ευγενής φράση σήμερα έχει αντικατασταθεί από το "Σκάσε".
Το οποίον ισχύει και γιά τους άδικους και γελοιογραφικούς αντι-κομμουνιστές κατήγορους του Προέδρου.

Σύντομη ιστορία του κειμένου

Το άρθρο είχε δημοσιευτεί στις σελίδες της Ενδο~Μήδεια / Cyprus IndyMedia το 2003 και χάθηκε σε καταστροφές που υπέστηκαν οι εγκαταστάσεις μας στο Δίκτυο καθώς και τα ηλεκτρονικά μας αρχεία (ένας υπολογιστής εξερράγει, ενός άλλου το αρχείο διεγράφει παντελώς από κάποιο ανεύθυνο τεχνικό...)

Καταφέραμε να το διασώσουμε με τη βοήθεια των Σαπφίδων. Με τα δικά τους λόγια: "οι ιστοσελίδες των Σαπφίδων είναι αφιερωμένες εξαιρετικά κι ουσιαστικά ανήκουν στις γυναίκες που αγαπούν γυναίκες και σε όλους τους ανθρώπους που αγαπούν όλο τον κόσμο, χωρίς διακρίσεις":

No Year required

These last few days I've been immersed in reading Bill Ayer's "Fugitive Days". It's gotten me shifting in and out of a mental~emotional fugue affecting my language skills severely: tenses conflating into one another with ripped apart time references; jumbled memories of my own teen years in the clandestine resistance rising up gasping for air, registering themselves on the desktop of my self-perception's computer; forbidden memories; censored memories and lethal secrets bound by oaths sworn decades ago all getting mixed up with the present time....

When I get my head back together again I'd like to write a little about the experience of reading Bill's book. But it's too early yet.

I'm only able to read small doses at a time. The personal~political path Bill helps us traverse through the pages is so familiar, so unbearably familiar that it burns my eyes to read. I often stop to read a few sentences two and three times again - there's so much condensed in there - did I catch his meaning correctly here? And here? Or am I just projecting into his words fragments of meaning (or lackthereof) from my own insane past?

Last night I was ruminating again on what a tremendous time-twister, what a ripped up mandala this thing turned out to be when on September 11, 2001, the New York Times published an interview with Bill in which his book was first presented. With the sensationalist and deliberately misleading title of
"No Regrets for a Love Of Explosives; In a Memoir of Sorts, a War Protester Talks of Life With the Weathermen", the interview was timed to coincide with the release of "Fugitive Days":

And then another weird thing about September 11, 2001, was that my friend and comrade Mitchel Cohen was - we hoped! - going to get elected Mayor of New York City on that day's Mayoral primary elections. Voting was postponed due to the horrendous events of that day, forever engraved in peoples' perception as the date without a year. The date "September 11" stands by itself. No year required.

And then again this morning I received an automatic notice from the facebook account of Christiana Voniati saying that my name, along with Bill Ayer's and a bunch of other people's names got jumbled up on a cartoon reference to 9/11...

Ok, it's a difinitely an omen, I thought, and it means I have to make a good centralized list of some of my articles about September 11. People are always asking me what I think of those events, and I'm usually reluctant to say "would you like to read my articles on it? I've got plenty!"
